Coastkeeper targets industries in San Diego County with negative impacts on the environment, using the threat of litigation as well as working with local and state regulators and elected officials to press for cleanup efforts to restore ecosystems. Although Coastkeeper's efforts to date are far from complete, substantial improvements have occurred in sediment remediation by shipyards with a 40-year history of polluting; and compliance by several Otay Mesa auto dismantlers to ensure that companies were properly undertaking Best Management Practices (BMPs) to reduce pollution at their sites.

Coastkeeper is now challenging these mega-companies to undertake sediment remediation efforts to undo the damage they have done over the past 40 years.
Power Plant
Coastkeeper is working to force Duke Energy to repower its antiquated SBPP to technology that will dramatically improve local water and air quality.
Auto Dismantlers
Coastkeeper continues to work to bring auto dismantlers in San Diego into compliance with California's Industrial Stormwater Permit.

Coastkeeper foregoes litigation with Sea World/Anheuser Busch whose fireworks are to be discontinued until permit secured.
